DIY Car Repair Jump Starting Ram Promaster 3500 Van

In this video, I show how to jump start a van with the most common type of jumper cables.

In this is a simple RAM Promaster Van DIY car repair video I am showing how to jump start the Van. The battery for the van is located inside the car under the driver's floor. So to jump start it is easier to open the hood and connect the cable to the big red terminal and the big ground terminal at the right front of the engine compartment. This is right in front of the firewall on the driver side of the car.

Some people might think that they need a special set of jumper cables in order to jump-start their car, truck or van, but this is not true. In fact, these cables are available for purchase at any auto parts store and cost less than $30.00! I have added a link here for some really good ones that you can get for under $30.00.

To save even more money when purchasing your jumper cables, you can use old ones that you may already have around the house. The key thing about using old or new jumper cables is making sure they're in good condition before using them!

Now let us get to it. I am going to show you how to jump start a Ram Promaster 3500 Van.

This is not the first time I've had problems with this vehicle, but this time it was different because I didn't have AAA! It's always good to be prepared though... So today we're going to figure out how to solve the dead battery problem ourselves. We will jump starting our van.

Steps to jumpstart your Ram Pro Master Van.

1) Find a really good ground--the metal part of the vehicle that's touching the metal frame of the van is called the ground. Ore any other big metal connection to the frame is a good ground and will be a good place. Make sure there are no other vehicles in close proximity and make sure it's not raining or snowing (you don't want to get electrocuted).

2) Arrange both vehicles and position them so that one end of each jumper cable is on the ground, and then connect the other end to terminals on batteries. The black terminal will connect with black terminals; this is the (-) or negative lead. The red connects with red terminals. This is the positive terminal.

3) Connect the red (+) clamp to the positive terminal of the dead battery. In this case it is the metal tab under the hood as shown in the video. The two metal tabs we will be using are on the driver side right in front once the hood is opened. The positive one is under a red plastic cover with a plus on it.

4) Then, connect the red (+) positive clamp to the positive terminal of the working battery.

5) Connect the black (-) negative clamp to the negative terminal of the working battery.

6) Connect the last remaining black (-) negative clamp to a ground point on the van with the dead battery. This can be any unpainted metal surface. In this case it is the metal tab under the hood as shown in the video. The two metal tabs we will be using are on the driver side right in front once the hood is opened.

7) Try to start the Van with the dead battery.

8) Be very careful unhooking the Cables. Disconnect the jumper cables in the reverse order you attached them.
